This Old Man

Knick-knack paddy-whack song

"This Old Man" is a traditional English nursery rhyme and counting song, teaching children numbers one through ten.

Each verse follows a pattern: "This old man, he played one, he played knick-knack on my thumb," with the refrain "knick-knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone, this old man came rolling home." The nonsense words and repetitive structure make it a favorite for sing-alongs and hand-clapping games.
