The Merry Widow
Viennese waltz source
*The Merry Widow* is a 1905 operetta by Franz Lehár, one of the most successful works in the genre.
The title refers to a wealthy young widow whose fortune multiple suitors pursue.
A merry widow is also a type of women's lingerie—a strapless corset or bustier, often with attached garters—named after costumes from productions of the operetta.
