The French Connection
Marseille heroin pipeline
The French Connection refers to a heroin smuggling route from Turkey through France to the United States, active from the 1930s through the 1970s.
The term gained wider recognition from the 1971 film depicting New York detectives who broke up the operation.
By extension, it describes any significant link or relationship involving France: The team's French connection brought them two talented players from Lyon.
