The Annunciation
Angel announces conception
The Annunciation is the biblical event in which the angel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and bear Jesus.
In Christian tradition, this moment marks the incarnation of Christ.
The term also refers to artistic depictions of this scene, a major subject in Western religious art: a Renaissance Annunciation by Fra Angelico.
The Feast of the Annunciation falls on March 25.
