Terry Fox
Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete and activist who, after losing a leg to cancer, attempted to run across Canada in 1980 to raise money for cancer research.
His Marathon of Hope covered over 5,000 kilometers before cancer forced him to stop.
He died in 1981 at age 22.
Annual Terry Fox Runs worldwide continue his fundraising legacy: My kids did the Terry Fox Run at school.
