Shoeless Joe Jackson
Shoeless Joe Jackson was an American baseball outfielder (1887–1951) whose career ended in scandal.
One of the game's greatest natural hitters, he was banned from baseball for life after the 1919 Black Sox scandal, in which eight Chicago White Sox players allegedly conspired to throw the World Series.
Whether Jackson participated in the fix remains disputed—he batted .375 in that Series.
His exclusion from the Baseball Hall of Fame remains controversial.
The nickname came from a minor league game when he reportedly played in his stocking feet.
