Shere Khan
Shere Khan is the tiger villain in Rudyard Kipling's *The Jungle Book*, a lame but menacing predator who claims the man-cub Mowgli as his prey.
The name has become shorthand for a powerful, intimidating antagonist: He ran that department like Shere Khan, and everyone feared him.
