Shamu

Captive killer whale

Shamu was the stage name given to performing orca whales at SeaWorld theme parks, beginning with the original Shamu captured in 1965.

The name became synonymous with captive killer whale entertainment and was applied to multiple whales over decades.

In casual usage, Shamu sometimes appears as a generic or mildly derogatory reference to any large creature, including overweight people: I felt like Shamu after Thanksgiving dinner.
