Shahrazad

Tales postpone execution

Shahrazad is the legendary Persian storyteller of *One Thousand and One Nights*, who saves her life by telling her husband the king a new tale each night, always ending at a cliffhanger so he spares her to hear the continuation.

Her name has become synonymous with masterful, suspenseful narration: She held the children spellbound like Shahrazad.

Also spelled Scheherazade.
