Clarice Starling
Clarice Starling is the protagonist of Thomas Harris's novels *The Silence of the Lambs* and *Hannibal*—a young FBI trainee who interviews the imprisoned cannibalistic psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter to help catch a serial killer.
The character, portrayed by Jodie Foster in the 1991 film, became iconic for her combination of vulnerability and steely determination.
Her name has become shorthand for a clever, ambitious woman navigating a male-dominated profession: She's giving Clarice Starling energy in those depositions.
