Ronald McDonald House is a nonprofit organization providing free or low-cost lodging for families of children receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals.
The houses allow parents to stay close to a sick child without the financial burden of hotels during extended treatment.
Named after the McDonald's mascot, the charity operates hundreds of locations worldwide: They stayed at the Ronald McDonald House while their daughter underwent chemotherapy.
