Purdue Pharma

Painkiller pill company

Purdue Pharma is the pharmaceutical company that manufactured OxyContin, a powerful opioid painkiller.

The company became synonymous with the American opioid crisis after aggressive marketing practices in the 1990s and 2000s contributed to widespread addiction and tens of thousands of overdose deaths.

Owned by the Sackler family, Purdue filed for bankruptcy in 2019 amid thousands of lawsuits from states, cities, and individuals.
