Rin Tin Tin

Rin Tin Tin was a German Shepherd dog who became one of Hollywood's biggest stars in the 1920s silent film era.

Rescued from a World War I battlefield by an American soldier, he appeared in dozens of films and saved Warner Bros. from bankruptcy.

The name evokes early cinema heroism and the enduring appeal of animal actors.

Later a 1950s television series revived the character with successor dogs.
