Ravi Shankar
Indian sitar legend
Ravi Shankar (1920–2012) was an Indian musician and composer who brought the sitar to Western audiences.
His virtuosity and collaborations with Western artists—notably George Harrison of the Beatles—made him the most internationally recognized figure in Indian classical music.
The name has become shorthand for the sitar itself in popular consciousness.
