Perot

Texan third-party candidate

Ross Perot was an American businessman and politician who ran as an independent candidate for U.S. president in 1992 and 1996.

His self-funded campaigns, folksy Texas manner, and use of charts and infomercials made him a political phenomenon: Perot got nearly 19 percent of the vote.

His name became shorthand for wealthy outsider candidates challenging the two-party system.
