Paul Cézanne

Paul Cézanne was a French painter (1839–1906) whose work bridged Impressionism and the radical experiments of early twentieth-century art.

His treatment of form—particularly his flattened planes and geometric simplification of landscapes, still lifes, and figures—profoundly influenced Cubism and modern abstraction.

Picasso called him "the father of us all."
