Partygate
Downing Street parties
Partygate refers to the political scandal that emerged in late 2021 involving gatherings held at British government buildings, particularly 10 Downing Street, during COVID-19 lockdowns when such social events were prohibited by law.
The term follows the convention of appending "-gate" to scandals, after Watergate.
The revelations led to significant political fallout for Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his staff, with police fines issued and eventual resignations.
Partygate dominated British headlines for months.
