Paris Agreement

Global emissions treaty

The Paris Agreement is a 2015 international treaty on climate change adopted by 196 countries at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris.

Its central aim is to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, with efforts to keep it to 1.5 degrees.

Countries submit nationally determined contributions outlining their emissions reduction targets, which are reviewed and strengthened over time.

The Paris Agreement marked a turning point in global climate policy.
