Oxford Dictionary
English language reference
The Oxford Dictionary is a family of English dictionaries published by Oxford University Press, most notably the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), which is the most comprehensive historical dictionary of English.
The OED traces words from their earliest recorded uses through their evolution, with extensive citations.
Other Oxford dictionaries serve different purposes: the Oxford Dictionary of English for contemporary usage, the Concise Oxford for everyday reference.
The Oxford Dictionary is considered the authority on English word origins.
