Mr. Hooper

Mr.

Hooper was a character on the American children's television program *Sesame Street*, the kindly owner of the corner store.

Played by Will Lee from the show's 1969 debut until his death in 1982, Mr.

Hooper became notable when the show addressed his death directly with young viewers rather than replacing the character—a groundbreaking moment in children's programming.

Big Bird's mispronunciation as "Mr.

Looper" became a running affectionate joke.
