Lady of the Lake
Arthurian water spirit
The Lady of the Lake is a figure from Arthurian legend, an enchantress who dwells in or presides over a magical lake.
She gives King Arthur his sword Excalibur and later receives it back when he dies.
The title appears in various tellings—sometimes applied to different characters including Nimue and Viviane.
Sir Walter Scott's 1810 poem of the same name draws on Scottish legend rather than Arthurian sources.
