LAN parties
Networked gaming sessions
LAN parties are social gatherings where people bring their computers to a shared location and connect them on a local area network to play multiplayer games together.
Popular before widespread high-speed internet, they combined competitive gaming with the camaraderie of being in the same room: We used to haul our desktop towers to LAN parties every weekend.
The format persists for its social atmosphere and low-latency gameplay.
