Jesus freaks

Fervent Christian believers

Jesus freaks is a term for enthusiastic, demonstrative Christians—especially young people who embrace evangelical or charismatic worship styles.

Coined in the early 1970s during the Jesus Movement, it was initially dismissive but became adopted by some believers as a badge of pride: We're just a bunch of Jesus freaks who meet on Thursdays.

The term suggests religiosity that others find excessive or unsophisticated.
