Internet cafes
Pay-to-browse venues
Internet cafes are establishments offering computer terminals with Internet access for hourly fees.
They flourished in the 1990s and early 2000s before smartphones and widespread home Internet made them largely obsolete in wealthy countries.
They remain common in developing regions where personal Internet access is less universal: I checked my email at an Internet cafe in Hanoi.
