Holmes and Watson
Victorian crime solvers
Holmes and Watson refers to a detective duo or partnership where one person is the brilliant investigator and the other serves as loyal companion, chronicler, or foil.
From Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, the pairing has become shorthand for any complementary team where analytical genius meets practical support: Every police procedural needs its Holmes and Watson.
The names often imply that one partner, however capable, exists partly to make the other look smarter.
