Hammer horror

Campy British frights

Hammer horror refers to the distinctive style of Gothic horror films produced by the British studio Hammer Film Productions, primarily from the 1950s through the 1970s.

These films featured lurid Technicolor, period settings, graphic violence, and sensuality that pushed boundaries for their era.

Christopher Lee as Dracula and Peter Cushing as Van Helsing became iconic.

The term now describes any horror with that atmospheric, theatrical quality: The movie had real Hammer horror vibes—all fog and heaving bosoms.
