The Haunting

Persistent spectral presence

*The Haunting* is a 1963 horror film directed by Robert Wise, adapted from Shirley Jackson's novel *The Haunting of Hill House*.

Widely considered one of the finest haunted house films ever made, it relies on psychological tension and suggestion rather than visible ghosts: *The Haunting* proves you don't need to show the monster.

A 1999 remake with the same title used heavy CGI effects and was poorly received.
