HTML element

Webpage structural component

An HTML element is a component of a webpage's underlying code, typically consisting of an opening tag, content, and a closing tag: The paragraph element wraps text in <p> tags.

Common elements include headings, links, images, and divs.

Elements can be nested inside one another to create page structure.

In casual usage, element and tag are often used interchangeably, though technically the tag is just the markup that defines the element.
