Greenland ice sheet
Massive northern icecap
The Greenland ice sheet is the massive body of ice covering most of Greenland, second in size only to Antarctica's.
It contains enough frozen water to raise global sea levels by about seven meters if fully melted.
Climate scientists monitor its rate of loss as a key indicator of global warming: The Greenland ice sheet is losing mass faster than models predicted.
