Greek playwrights
Ancient theatrical authors
Greek playwrights are the dramatists of ancient Greece who created tragedy and comedy as literary forms.
The major tragedians—Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides—wrote for religious festivals in fifth-century Athens, as did the comic playwright Aristophanes.
Their works established conventions that shaped Western theater for millennia.
