Gila monsters

Venomous desert reptiles

Gila monsters are large venomous lizards native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico.

They are slow-moving, with beaded skin marked by black and orange or pink patterns.

Their venomous bite is painful but rarely fatal to humans.

The name comes from Arizona's Gila River basin, part of their natural range.
