The Gideons are members of Gideons International, a Christian organization best known for placing Bibles in hotel rooms, hospitals, and other public spaces.
The familiar nightstand Bible is often called a Gideon Bible: I found a Gideon Bible in the drawer.
The organization takes its name from the biblical judge Gideon.
