General Lee
Surrendered at Appomattox
General Lee refers to Robert E.
Lee (1807–1870), commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia during the American Civil War.
Lee remains a complex figure—revered by some as a military tactician and Southern gentleman, condemned by others as a defender of slavery.
The name appears on statues, schools, and roads across the former Confederacy, many now contested or removed.
In popular culture, the General Lee is the orange 1969 Dodge Charger from the television series *The Dukes of Hazzard*, featuring a Confederate flag on its roof.
