Federalist Party
First American party
The Federalist Party was an early American political party (1789–1824) that advocated strong central government, a national bank, and close ties with Britain.
Led by Alexander Hamilton and John Adams, it opposed the Democratic-Republicans of Thomas Jefferson.
The Federalists dominated the first decade of U.S. government but declined after the War of 1812 and dissolved by the 1820s.
