F-18 Hornet
Carrier-based fighter aircraft
The F-18 Hornet is an American twin-engine combat jet designed for aircraft carrier operations.
Built by McDonnell Douglas (later Boeing), it serves as both a fighter and attack aircraft—hence the "F/A-18" designation.
The Hornet entered U.S.
Navy and Marine Corps service in the 1980s and has seen combat from the Gulf War through Afghanistan.
The larger, more advanced Super Hornet succeeded it but kept the name.
