Eva Peron
Buenos Aires' saint
Eva Perón was the wife of Argentine president Juan Perón and a powerful political figure in her own right during the 1940s and early 1950s.
Rising from poverty to become a champion of workers and the poor, she built a devoted following through social programs and fiery rhetoric.
Her early death from cancer at 33 made her a martyr figure.
She is often called Evita, the affectionate diminutive.
