Easter processions
Spring religious parades
Easter processions are public religious observances in which participants walk through streets carrying crosses, statues, or other sacred objects to commemorate Christ's crucifixion and resurrection.
Most elaborate in Catholic and Orthodox traditions, they range from solemn reenactments of the Stations of the Cross to festive parades with floats and music.
In some regions, hooded penitents or participants carrying heavy crosses engage in acts of devotion: The Seville Easter processions draw thousands of spectators each year.
