DirectPlay

Gaming network API

DirectPlay is a Microsoft API that was part of DirectX, providing networking capabilities for multiplayer games.

It handled the complexities of connecting players over local networks or the internet, managing game sessions, and synchronizing data between participants.

DirectPlay was deprecated in 2008 and removed from later versions of Windows, replaced by Games for Windows Live and other networking solutions.

Legacy games requiring DirectPlay may need the feature manually enabled in Windows.
