Danish oil
Penetrating wood finish
Danish oil is a wood finish that penetrates the grain rather than sitting on the surface like varnish or lacquer.
It typically combines oil (often tung or linseed) with resins and sometimes varnish, creating a finish that enhances wood's natural appearance while providing moderate protection against moisture and wear.
Danish oil is popular among woodworkers for its ease of application—simply wipe on, let soak, wipe off excess—and its forgiving nature, as it can be touched up without visible overlap marks.
I gave the walnut table three coats of Danish oil.
