D.B. Cooper

Parachuting ransom thief

D.B.

Cooper is the pseudonym of an unidentified man who hijacked a Northwest Orient Airlines flight in 1971, extorted $200,000 in ransom, then parachuted from the plane somewhere over the Pacific Northwest and was never found.

The case remains the only unsolved skyjacking in American history.

The name has become shorthand for a daring escape or vanishing act: He pulled a D.B. Cooper and disappeared with the money.
