Cedric
Aristocratic-sounding male name
Cedric is a masculine given name, now somewhat old-fashioned in English-speaking countries.
It was invented by Sir Walter Scott for a character in *Ivanhoe* (1819), possibly based on the Anglo-Saxon name Cerdic.
The name enjoyed modest popularity through the early twentieth century but has since declined: Uncle Cedric always brought butterscotch candies when he visited.
