Catholic guilt
Faith-induced moral burden
Catholic guilt is a persistent sense of shame or moral anxiety attributed to Catholic upbringing, particularly its emphasis on sin, confession, and divine judgment.
The term describes feelings of guilt that linger even after leaving the faith or rejecting its teachings: I haven't been to mass in twenty years, but the Catholic guilt never goes away.
Often used half-jokingly to explain excessive self-blame or discomfort with pleasure.
