Bakhmut

Bakhmut is a city in eastern Ukraine that became synonymous with prolonged, grinding warfare during the Russian invasion of 2022–2023.

The battle for Bakhmut lasted nearly a year and became one of the bloodiest engagements of the conflict, with both sides suffering massive casualties for marginal territorial gains.

The name now evokes attritional combat and strategic controversy: Bakhmut became a meat grinder for both armies.
