Apollo 17
Last lunar mission
Apollo 17 was the final crewed mission to the Moon, launched in December 1972.
It carried the only scientist-astronaut to walk on the lunar surface and set records for longest lunar stay and largest sample return.
The mission effectively ended the Apollo program's lunar exploration: No human has been to the Moon since Apollo 17.
