Almost Famous

On fame's edge

Almost Famous is the state of being nearly but not quite famous—recognized by some but lacking widespread celebrity.

The phrase gained currency from the 2000 film about a teenage rock journalist, and now often describes artists, actors, or musicians who achieved modest recognition without breaking through: He spent the eighties almost famous, opening for bands everyone remembers.
