A-fib

Irregular heartbeat, abbreviated

A-fib is the common shorthand for atrial fibrillation, an irregular and often rapid heart rhythm originating in the heart's upper chambers.

The condition causes the atria to quiver chaotically rather than contract normally, which can allow blood to pool and clot: She's been on blood thinners since her A-fib diagnosis.

Also written AFib or AF.
