youth detention

Minor's correctional facility

Youth detention is the confinement of minors who have been arrested, are awaiting trial, or have been adjudicated for offenses.

A youth detention center—also called juvenile hall or informally juvie—houses young people separately from adult prisoners: He spent six months in youth detention for the robbery.

The system emphasizes rehabilitation over punishment, at least in theory.
