x-ray specs
Comic ad novelty
X-ray specs are novelty glasses marketed—especially in old comic book ads—as allowing the wearer to see through clothing, skin, or solid objects.
The gag relies on optical illusions rather than actual X-rays.
The concept persists as a cultural reference for impossible or voyeuristic technology: Every teenage boy wished x-ray specs actually worked.
