work sample
Demonstration of skill
A work sample is a piece of work produced as evidence of skill or competence, typically submitted during job applications or performance evaluations.
Employers request work samples to assess candidates beyond résumés: Bring three work samples to the interview.
In creative fields, a portfolio is essentially a collection of work samples.
The term also appears in research contexts, where a work sample test measures job-relevant abilities through actual task performance rather than written questions.
