artist residency
Subsidized studio time
An artist residency is a program that provides artists with time, space, and sometimes funding to focus on creative work away from their usual environment.
Residencies range from a few weeks to a year or more, often in rural retreats or urban studios: She spent three months at an artist residency in New Mexico.
Some offer stipends or housing; others charge fees.
The goal is uninterrupted creative development, often with access to specialized facilities or communities of fellow artists.
